Bentley Mulsanne Key Celebrates Its Centenary

Bentley's custom coachbuilding division, Mulliner, has designed a unique key case to commemorate the brand's centennial. It's made of Dark Stained Burr Walnut with Piano Black Veneer and includes an eagle-like "B" paperweight, keys, and an unreleased booklet with 1930s 8 Litre images.

Aesthetics

As a design-driven company, Bentley takes its aesthetics seriously. The Continental GT is Bentley's most sophisticated open-top vehicle. Similarly, the electrically-operated glass sunroof and champagne cooler that incorporated hand-blown and hand-cut lead crystal bottles marked a new benchmark in luxury and innovation.

It is this bespoke design, attention to detail and craftsmanship to detail that have established Bentley as the most sought-after automobile brand. The firm continues to push the boundaries with the latest technology and craft, including the introduction of a digital instrument cluster and an electric tilt-opening rear glass sunroof, an artisan-made docking station for Apple iPads, and electrochromic "smart" glass that can be switched between opaque and transparent with the push of an arrow.

Bentley celebrated its 100th anniversary this year, 100 years after it was founded. Design

The Mulsanne is equipped with twin turbocharged 6.75 litre W12 engine that puts out 560bhp and 479lb-ft torque. This power is paired with a new suspension system that offers Bentley's signature quiet ride.

In celebration of its Centenary, Bentley introduced a specific specification that is called the Centenary Specification for vehicles built in 2019. This includes cross-stitching and contrast stitching in Centenary Gold thread throughout the cabin. The Bentley Wings on the headrests and seats are embossed in Centenary Gold, adding to the feeling of celebration. The Centenary Specification also includes a personalized Bentley keycase, adding to the Bentley experience.

Function

The Bentley Mulsanne key comes with an opening button for the trunk and another that starts the car. It also has a button to turn on the parking break. There is a knob to fold and unfold the mirrors while parking in tight spaces. This feature helps you get in and out of your car.

The key is constructed from vegetable tanned leather. It takes more than two days to make each one. The key is cut by hand, then shaped, sewed to seal, and polished to give a superior result. It is compact and strong and matches the Bentley key perfectly. Its design is similar with the Volkswagen Phaeton's large car key, however it feels more heavy and luxurious.

It also comes with Secure-A-Key which can help prevent theft of keys without keypads. This device is inserted into the remote-control fob, and then shuts it off when the key has not been used for more than a few minutes. It blocks thieves from transmitting the key's frequency to other devices which can be used to open and start the vehicle.

Personalisation

Bentley's bespoke division, Mulliner, allows customers to essentially design their own car. Customers sit at a set of images called "mood stations" and pick a collection of images ranging from scenic views to sporting events that can inspire them.
